What should I wear for a Reiki session?

"What should I wear for a Reiki session?"

If you have never experienced a Reiki treatment before, there is often an mystique surrounding the process. This unknown leaves the mind wondering, “What exactly am I in signing myself up for?”

One of the questions I am often asked is “What should I wear for a Reiki session?”

The good news is, that unlike the profound healing capacity of our body, or the benefits of Reiki, this question has a pretty simple answer.

During a Reiki session, there is a transfer of Universal Life Force Energy to the client from Source. This transfer of energy occurs while the practitioner has their hands hovering over or lightly placed upon the client's body (never upon the genitals or areas of sensitivity, such as the throat). This energy is able to move easily through blankets, fabrics, even furniture! Therefore, Reiki is done with the client fully clothed (unless it is apart of another therapeutic treatment, such as massage).

When I treat a Reiki client, they are laying on a massage table, fully clothed, under a sheet and a light blanket for warmth. Shoes are removed.

Unless you are seated in a chair to receive Reiki, or are at a place where this is impractical such as an expo, you will be asked or invited to remove your shoes.

If your feet are sensitive or cold natured, wear some cozy socks.

Clothing that feels comfortable and unrestrictive always works best. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, would you feel comfortable doing yoga in this outfit? If so, you are likely on the right track ;)

For women, don't wear earrings or simply remove them for the session, unless you need them. This ensures easy access to important energy points at the ears, without concern they might get pulled.
